Scurries welcomes pet gundogs with open arms!
Emily and Jay are passionate about being able to help individuals who own a gundog breed that lives at home as a pet, but have no intention of ever taking them out on a shoot.
Gundog breeds make fabulous family pets and our classes are designed to provide you with the knowledge of how to raise and train them to fit into the life that you live.
All of our classes and workshops are perfect for the pet gundog and designed to enhance your relationship by using games and exercises which fulfill their natural instincts. The classes will give you all the knowledge to learn about what makes your gundog tick and how to get the best out of them.
GUNDOG FIELD TESTS
The Gundog Club is the training arm of the registered Charity ‘The Gundog Trust.’ Its purpose is to promote positive, force free training of gundogs. Jay is an affiliated accredited instructor.
The Club aims to support students and their dogs through a series of field tests that help develop skills in the dog making them suitable for working in the field, moving onto working tests or field trials, or just to be a well mannered and trained pet dog, utilising their breed traits and motivations to fulfil their mental needs.
The field tests are not competitive which can relieve a lot of nerves and pressure especially for novice handlers. The dogs are assessed against criteria known in advance so as long as the dog performs the exercises on the day, they can be awarded the test certificate regardless of their performance against other dogs.
The Foundation and Intermediate gundog classes are a great start in working towards completing these tests.
Scurries boast a fully enclosed area for private hire.
You will have access to both our sensory garden, full of different surfaces and interactive equipment as well as our large paddock ideal for a good run around.
The paddock is great for off the lead time for dogs who are still working on their recall, general obedience training, doggy birthday parties, introducing your puppy to new environments, reactive dogs who dislike running into other dogs or people on walks.
The paddock can be hired for one hour at a cost of £12 or for half an hour at a cost of £8.
All bookings are to be made via email. All bookings are for private use of the paddock and instructions on how to make payment and find us will be emailed on confirmation of booking.
Please note: Scurries cannot accept any responsibility for you or your dog when hiring the paddock and owners do so at their own risk.
ONE TO ONE GUNDOG TRAINING
We offer this for any dog of any age, and it doesn’t have to be a traditional gundog breed, but it will benefit most dogs that are naturally bred to work in the field; hunting and or retrieving.
However, a lot of what is taught is based on relaxed ‘steady’ behaviour and obedience so it can suit anyone who is seeking a little more of this. It will be designed around your needs and can be booked alongside attendance of any of our other workshops or classes.
This will be required prior to joining our Foundation Gundog Course (except for those who have completed our Puppy Course or Advanced Puppy Course) and prior to joining monthly Gundog Classes (except for those who have completed our Foundation Gundog Course).
One to ones are charged at £80 for 1.5 hours, £60 for 1 hour and there is also the option of booking 3 1 hour sessions for £150.
We offer numerous group classes for you and your dog, whether they are a Gundog breed or not there is something for everyone!
